Moretto: Rijeka’s carnival mask in an original interpretation — the first author collection of Morčić masks by Katja Restović, together with make-up artist Robert Kozjak
The Moretto mask became part of the official identity of the Rijeka Carnival under the auspices of the Rijeka Tourist Board. Designing the Moretto carnival mask required a careful blend of tradition and contemporary visual language, and Restović approached the project with deep respect for local culture. The mask carried elements of Rijeka’s historical identity, while also introducing stylistic modernisation adapted to a new generation of carnival participants.
The project brought together local artists, costume designers and craftsmen, resulting in a visual symbol that has become one of the most recognisable emblems of the Rijeka Carnival. Moretto still bears the imprint of that creative period.
